In this article, you will find out what camera and other vlogging equipment does Roman Atwood use.
We’ll do a quick review of his DSLR and vlogging cameras, lenses, and the rest of his equipment.
Roman’s vlogging camera is a popular choice among other YouTubers as well. Which is it? Keep reading, and you’ll find out.
We’ll also share several ideas to improve your vlogging gear.
So, what camera does Roman Atwood use? Roman Atwood uses two DSLR cameras – Canon EOS 5D Mark IV Full Frame Digital SLR and Canon EOS 1DX Mark II camera with Canon Zoom Lens EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM Lens. As his main vlogging camera, he uses is Canon G7 x Mark II, but he also has 7 GoPro HERO4 Black action cameras. The rest of his video equipment is several tripods for each of the camera types and a customized case to carry all the items.
Only his Canon G7 x Mark II is a proper vlogging camera. The rest, except his GoPro cameras, are professional photography cameras suitable for product photos, portraits, landscapes, and other types of photography.
So, these are Roman’s DSLRs:
- Canon EOS 1DX Mark II (link to Amazon);
- Canon EOS 5D Mark IV Full Frame Digital SLR (link to Amazon).
Canon EOS 1DX Mark II costs 5000 USD. If you’re just starting with your YouTube channel, don’t even bother about getting such expensive equipment.
Take an example from MrBeast. He got his first 100 000 subscribers on YouTube by capturing videos on his iPhone 5.
Canon EOS 5D Mark IV is much more affordable. It costs 2500 USD.
It is a great 4K vlogging camera. According to Influencer Equipment, this camera is also used by MyLifeAsEva, Alisha Marie, Christian Guzman, Lance Stewart, and other influencers.
In one of his videos, Roman says that he has never used his DSLRs for vlogging.
Which One Is Roman Atwoods Vlogging Camera?
Roman Atwood has at least two Canon G7 x Mark II’s (link to Amazon).
Its price on Amazon is 499 USD.
By now, I have reviewed several famous YouTuber vlogging equipment, and Canon G7 X Mark II is on everyone’s list. Logan Paul, FaZe Rug, KSI, Will Smith, Alex Wassabi, and many others use this camera as their primary device for daily vlogs.
Its a total package for vloggers, but you could do even better than that by using recently updated model Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III (link to Amazon).
Both PowerShot G7 X Mark II and PowerShot Mark III has a tilting touchscreen and optical image stabilization, but with PowerShot Mark III, Canon has made a real vlogging camera.
Meaning you will be able to live stream directly to YouTube, and the vertical video shooting will be available as well.
Get either one of both cameras and install the Canon Camera Connect app on your smartphone.
It will allow you to control your camera from within an app. You will be able to transfer your photos and videos from your camera to your phone.
What Camera Equipment Does Roman Atwood Use?
Camera lenses
Roman Atwood uses Canon Zoom Lens EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM Lens (link to Amazon).
Its price on Amazon is 1899.00 USD.
Here is what people who own the lens have to say about it:
EF 70-200mm F2.8L IS II USM – Probably the best zoom lens Canon makes, and it is good for a wide variety of uses. Portraits, low light action, low light anything, nature, it’s just so good.– Wigged Out Fat Guy, Amazon.com
The Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III series lens is the successor to the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II series lens. It’s vastly improved image quality, and superb contrast make it a worthy upgrade, if you have the extra cash to upgrade, or are buying a 16-35mm for the first time.– Hi Bill, Amazon.com
It is not useful as a “walk-around” lens unless you are going to spend the day in tight quarters. The zoom range is relatively limited, but it is still far more useful than a primary lens for those of us who do not wish to carry a half-dozen lenses all the time.– X, Amazon.com
Roman’s action cameras
In one of his videos, 7 GoPro HERO4 cameras can be seen at the same time – all packed in video equipment carrying case.
Depending on your niche, you could choose any action camera as your primary vlogging camera, especially for travel and sports bloggers.
Get a newer camera – either GoPro Hero 7 Black or Sony FDRX3000/W to will capture nice 4K videos for your YouTube channel.
My personal preference is Sony.
Alternatively, you could also check out DJI Osmo 4K action came.
No matter which action camera you will get, make sure to purchase an appropriate Micro SD Card.
To get the best video quality out of your camera, get Micro DS Card that has letters XC not the HC on it. It means getting a faster Micro SD Card.
Bending tripods
Roman Atwood has a large video equipment case filled with various tripods, action camera accessories, wires, etc.
He has several regular and bending tripods for his DSLR’s, vlogging, and action cameras.
Get a tripod that has slip-resistant foam covering and slip-resistant rubber pads on the feet. This way, you will be able to wrap it around railings, trees, etc.
Roman’s vlogging camera (Canon G7 X Mark II) already has excellent image stabilization, but by using tripod cameras movement would become even smoother.
While lightweight action cameras could use a small tripod, it is recommended to get a bigger one for the DSLRs.
DSLR’s and vlogging camera’s batteries and battery chargers
Roman has two DSLRs, two vlogging cameras, and even more action cameras. It’s the same with the batteries and battery chargers.
As you’ve already seen in the pictures, he uses original Canon batteries and battery chargers.
Each battery costs approximately 60 USD, and each battery charger 50 USD.
So the total costs of Roman batteries and battery chargers are approximately 440 USD.
Camera equipment case with customizable foam
I couldn’t tell from the video what brand it is, but Roman is using a case like this one on Amazon.
If you would consider getting one for yourself, get one that has customizable foam in it. This way, you will be able to create a perfect carrying case specifically for your video equipment.
How Much Does Roman Atwood’s Equipment Cost?
The total costs of Roman Atwood’s vlogging equipment are 12 319.99 USD. At least.
Here is the list of Roman’s video equipment:
- Canon EOS 1DX Mark II – 5000 USD;
- Canon EOS 5D Mark IV – 2500;
- 2x Canon G7 x Mark II – 1000.00 USD;
- Canon Zoom Lens EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM Lens – 1899.99 USD;
- 7x GoPro HERO7 Black – 1400 USD;
- Several batteries and chargers – 400 USD;
- Several tripods – 120 USD.
It might sound like a lot, and it is, but some YouTubers have paid for their equipment even three times more than.
Read my article about Unbox Therapy. They have three Canon c500’s each costing 16 000 USD. And then there is the rest.
In one of his videos, Roman admitted that nobody has ever sponsored him with anything, and the gear that’s listed in this article is his collection.
If you’re just starting, don’t waste your energy by choosing the best camera for your videos. Your content will matter the most. Spend that energy to come up with creative ideas for your videos instead.
Of course, all of this information will get outdated.
Please do not hesitate to leave a comment if you’ve spotted new equipment in Roman’s videos, and I will update the article right away.
Have a great day, and see you on YouTube!
